This is Allison, our pet iguana. Captured on September 24, 2007. She was digging in the dirt. All of a sudden she climbed on top of the mound of dirt and stuck out her tongue. I've never seen anything like it. It turns out she was showing off and looking for a mate. Ten days later she laid 27 eggs!!!

Amazing capture Donna! What an interesting pet! #5298812Danielle Fuller January 06, 2008
Great clarity and tones in this Donna, but I do have one question.....If this is your pet Iguana, and she was looking for a mate, how did she have eggs to lay? Maybe there were laid, but unfertilized?...LOL...Just curious! :) #5299845Donna La Mattino Pagakis January 06, 2008
Thank you Brett, Joseph, Sheryl and Danielle. It turns out that female iguanas lay eggs on a yearly basis. If she doesn't find a mate, they are unfertile, just like chicken eggs. Thanks again to each of you for your outstanding comments!!

Thank you Tammy, Tiia and Ken!!My daughter adopted Allison from her school. I was skeptical at first, you should see the size of her claws!! But to answer your question Ken, she is a creature of habit, and I have trained her!! Go figure!!

Donna La Mattino Pagakis January 07, 2008
Thank you Angie, Marcel, Jennifer and Linda. We have an enclosure where she lives, in my daughter's room. I do take her outside for walks. I just have to keep an eye on her. She is pretty predictable except during this period, with the eggs. I had no clue why she wasn't eating much, wanted more exercise and digging like crazy!!! Now I know!!!Thanks again everyone!!!

So sticking your tongue out means you want to mate? I fear if I tried that in public I might get a negative response :) Exceptional photo... very detailed. Best I have seen of a Iguana thus far. #5341026Marcel Eni January 19, 2008
Donna, awesome capture. Very opportunistic shot - congratulations ! Great iguana model you found :) #5365421Donna La Mattino Pagakis January 20, 2008
Thank you Steven and Marcel!! You have both left such great comments!!! I appreciate it very much! #5368458Jennifer A. Lambert February 04, 2008
Beautiful SHOT ! I breed Bearded Dragons. Luckliy she got to dig her hole and then actually laid her eggs and didn't get eggbound. That happens alot with iggy's. She was worn out after digging..usually they lay them in the dirt and cover them up....If you mated her you could get an egg incubator and Breed. They are very large as you know...but if you are interested I can help you and give you sites and forums where people will help you as well. Here's one of my Bearded Dragons I breed #5441254
